Below are some sample of work in Oak.  Both white and red oak are commonly available. Most of us can’t tell the difference.  Red oak is a little lighter if weighed and less expensive. The difference in a $1000. order would be about $40.  White oak has a more consistent color and weathers outdoors better.  A lot of the homes built during the colonial period used white oak as clapboard siding.  It is too expensive to use that way today considering the more available options of cedar, fir, and cement board
